Preview of Alabama football’s kicker competition ahead of fall camp

The Alabama Crimson Tide found themselves struggling consistently at the kicker position during the 2025 campaign. 

Alabama kickers Conor Talty and Lorcan Quinn are currently battling for the Crimson Tide’s starting kicker role in 2026. Talty struggled immensely throughout his first season as the starter in Tuscaloosa last year, as the kicker made 16 out of 23 total field goal attempts (69.6%).

Quinn could be regarded as a favorite to win the starting kicker role over Talty before fall camp. The Marshall transfer was nothing short of elite during his time with the Thundering Herd last year, and Quinn was named a first-team All-Sun Belt selection following his stellar freshman campaign. 

Each kicker has proven to succeed on numerous occasions in the past, despite Quinn emerging as the clear favorite over Talty. The former Marshall star performed at an extremely high level during Alabama’s A-Day spring game earlier in the offseason as well, where Quinn was able to drill two 47-yard field goals impressively. 

Talty could still emerge as the favorite for the starting kicker role should he ultimately begin to shine during fall camp. The promising kicker will face an uphill battle for the remainder of the offseason considering Quinn’s recent success, and a final decision from head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff is expected to be made in the near future.
