SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey feels no conference has a better strength of schedule than the SEC ahead of the 2026 football season.
The SEC leads the way in strength of schedule, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. The FPI has 14 SEC teams listed among the top 15 strongest schedules ahead of the fall. The Alabama Crimson Tide has the 15th strongest schedule, according to the metric.
Sankey expressed confidence in the league at SEC Media Days.
“When you look at our schedule, no one has created the kind of weekly competition our fans will experience in the Southeastern Conference,” Sankey said. “If we believe we are the best conference in college football, we should also be willing to embrace the best schedule in college football.”
Alabama will open the season against East Carolina. The Tide will kick off SEC play against Kentucky on Sept. 12.
