Former Alabama running back says his teammates prioritized leaving program in good place over going to league

Former Alabama football running back, Trent Richardson feels that the teammates he had when he played for the Crimson Tide had a different type of pride in the program.

Richardson played at Alabama from 2009 to 2011 and was a member of two National Championship teams before taking his talents to the NFL. Before declaring for the draft, Richardson said he had to make sure the Alabama football program was in the right hands, and this was something he saw his teammates do as well.

“We didn’t want to leave the team in anybody’s hands,” Richardson said on “The Dynasty” podcast. “Like, it had to be right. I told (Eddie) Lacey, like, he was like, man, go ahead and go to the league. I’m like, bro, I’m not going yet. And I wasn’t sure till I knew that he was ready. And so that was our baby. That was home for us. And so Mark (Ingram) left it to me. I left it to Eddie. Greg (McElroy) left it to AJ. AJ left it to the next guy that was there. It’s a precious thing to be a part of that system, to be a part of that family tree. Like, so you don’t want to just leave it in anybody’s hands.”

The Tide went on to win four more National Championships after Richardson departed from the program. The running back position also remained in a great place. Eddie Lacey, T.J. Yeldon, Derrick Henry, Jahmyr Gibbs, Najee Harris, Josh Jacobs and others carried the torch with grace and dominance.
