Legendary Alabama running back Trent Richardson gives Tide backs advice on how to run through tackles

Trent Richardson was recently asked what he would teach Alabama football’s running backs if he was on the Tide’s coaching staff. He starred at running back for the Tide while in college.

Richardson shed some light on things he would instill in the Tide’s backs if he was there coach on “The Dynasty Podcast.” One part of what Richardson said appeared to be advice directed at Alabama’s running backs, who are looking to be better this season.

The former Alabama back provided some advice on how to run through tackles in his answer.

“I would teach them pass blocking and learning how to read the safeties, and then pushing the hole when we’re running downhill and aiming at a shoulder when you’re trying to run through a tackle,” Richardson said. “Don’t just try to run. I mean, run somebody over, I’m good with that, cool. But I learned, like, running through a shoulder, a one-arm tackle, is way easier than just trying to run somebody slap over. And that’s coming from me.”

Daniel Hill is expected to lead the Tide’s running back room. He will be joined by Kevin Riley, AK Dear, EJ Crowell, Khalifa Keith and Trae’shawn Brown.
