Elite Texas 4-Star DB commit tells where recruitment stands after visiting Alabama

It was no surprise to see Junior Tu’upo make the trip back to Tuscaloosa to see the Crimson Tide take on East Carolina to open the 2026 season.

Tu’upo is a 2027 four-star defensive back, and he attends Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama. He is verbally committed to the Texas Longhorns, but it remains quite obvious why the Tide is still actively recruiting him. The Thompson High School senior is one of the most versatile defensive backs in the country, and he fits what Alabama wants in the backend of its defense at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds.

The visit marked another great trip to T-Town for the defensive back.

“I had a good visit,” Tu’upo said. “Enjoyed my time there, really enjoyed watching the game. This visit doesn’t change the way I feel about Texas. I’m still 100 percent committed.”

The four-star has previously spoken highly of his relationship with the Crimson Tide, and he is expected to be a frequent visitor in Tuscaloosa for the reminder of the season as it looks as if the Tide will not stop recruiting him.

“I love Bama for all the right reasons,” Tu’upo said. “They were the first team to see me, especially at the camp when I first came down here. They had eyes on me for a while. I built a long connection and a strong connection with them.”

At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, the 2027 prospect was a ball-hawking defensive back for the Warriors during the last football season. He displayed versatility while lining up at different spots within the Warriors’ defense. He was exceptional against the run when he was called upon to get downhill and make tackles. He also stood out in coverage with his length.
