The Crimson Tide are set to open SEC play on the road this weekend with a matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats.
Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell was excellent during his debut as the Crimson Tide’s starter last weekend. The sophomore flashed major potential on the ground and through the air, as Russell will now face an excellent test on the road against Kentucky in Week 2.
Despite his success, Russell struggled to protect himself on numerous occasions when taking off on the run against ECU last weekend. Alabama center Racin Delgatty took a moment to comment on the issue, as Delgatty claims the entire offensive line has encouraged Russell to slide more often.
“Every time we saw him get hit, we were like ‘slide, you need to slide’.” Delgatty said.
Russell recorded 256 yards through the air while also posting 86 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Pirates on Saturday. The sophomore will undoubtedly need to focus on protecting himself more moving forward, but Delgatty’s comments clearly point to the issue being worked on prior to the Tide’s first road contest of the year in Lexington.
