Alabama OC reveals road preparation tactics for Keelon Russell

The Alabama Crimson Tide will face their first true test of the 2026 season on the road against the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend.

Sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell will look to shine once again in Week 2. Russell flashed serious potential both through the air and on the ground during Week 1’s 48-10 victory over ECU, and the sophomore will undoubtedly need to be at his best once again this weekend despite playing in an extremely hostile environment.

Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb recently took a moment to reveal his game plan in regard to preparing Russell for the first road contest of his career, as Grubb claims that remaining calm in the chaos will be key.

“I think you got to push them on the mechanics at practice.” Grubb said. “Make it loud at practice, make it disturbing, a lot of chaos. When you get to the game it should almost feel easier than what you did at practice. And we want to raise a level of creating some urgency, some forced communication through practice and things like that. We know the fanbase up there is super excited, and I think anytime Bama comes to town people are pretty wired up. So we got to get the guys ready for those environments.”

Russell recorded 342 total yards and one rushing touchdown in his debut as the Tide’s starting quarterback last Saturday. The sophomore will need to be at his best while also limiting the contact he takes to a bare minimum in Lexington this weekend, and the Tide’s offense as a whole will look to keep things rolling in Week 2.
