Alabama football defeated Florida State 50-36, but there were a couple of disappointing moments defensively in this game, per Kalen DeBoer.
Florida State had double-digit plays where 15 or more yards were gained, and DeBoer expressed his disappointment in the post-game press conference.
“Yeah, that’s disappointing,” DeBoer said when he heard how many big plays Florida State had against Alabama. “I know our guys can be better there, and that’s really what kept them in the game, so a combination of pass rush and doing our job to where those second and third-level throws, you know, we can’t have that. I have all the confidence in our defensive backs, but just a reminder, nothing from one week carries over to the next.”
DeBoer said nothing from one week carries over to the next, but defensive coordinator Kane Wommack has repeatedly said in Monday morning press conferences that the defense will have to answer for what they put on tape.
Regardless, Alabama got the win, but the feeling at the end of this game was that the offense came on strong and pulled the team out of the early hole that the Crimson Tide found themselves in.
Alabama gave up 36 points, which is the most points the Crimson Tide have given up this season. The Crimson Tide allowed the Seminoles to score five more points than they did in the 2025 meeting between these two teams.
Florida State finished with 471 total yards of offense, but Alabama won the turnover battle by collecting three interceptions.
The Seminoles went 8-15 on third down against the Crimson Tide, and DeBoer addressed that.
“Third down in particular, got to get off the field,” he said. “We’ve been great the first two weeks, but you know, they got players, and you got to go out there and take it. You got to go do your job, and I know we’ll get some things corrected. Our guys are competitive guys. We’ll take a look at it, and team will continue to go to that, those concepts and those ideas to stress us, and we’ve got to do a better job executing.”
Alabama will host South Carolina next week at 6:00 p.m. CT.
