Did the Alabama offense have communication issues vs. Tennessee?

The Alabama offense managed only 201 total yards and 10 points against Tennessee after lighting up the stat sheet and scoreboard in the first five games of the season.

The Crimson Tide’s offense did not live up to the high expectations against the vols that many held them to after the early success they had, and they came up short in more ways than one.

Alabama also went into the game with a first-time starter at center in Mal Waldrep. With the combination of a new starter at center and the loud environment in Neyland Stadium, Keelon Russell was asked whether communication issues played a role in how ineffective the Tide’s offense was against the Vols.

“The guy (Waldrep) is amazing to play with,” Russell said. “He’s fun to play with. I mean, the communication piece wasn’t a struggle, nor to the line, nor to receivers. We just, like I said, just gotta do better.”

Tennessee defeated Alabama 26-10. Russell was sacked five times and threw two interceptions while only throwing for 147 yards. The Alabama offense has not scored more than 17 points in each of its last two games.
