Alabama football’s starting quarterback Keelon Russell commented on the plays the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb called against Tennessee.

Russell and the Tide lost to Tennessee 26-10 on Saturday. Alabama’s offense struggled throughout the game in large part due to the high level the Tennessee defense played at. There has also been some criticism about the plays Grubb called from members of the Alabama faithful.

Neyland Stadium is also considered to be one of the toughest places to play in the country.

Russell was asked about the impact playing in Neyland had on the game, and he brought up how he played and the plays Grubb called during his answer.

“I mean, it’s a tough environment,” Russell said. “I mean, I wouldn’t say it was the environment that shook me. I wouldn’t even say it’s anything that shook me. It was just the lack of, the lack of playing that I had. It was stuff in front of me that I could have easily took, and I was forcing the ball somewhere else. And just like I said, just wasn’t playing my game today, and I’m not gonna cry about it. I’m not gonna hold my head down, but I just gotta know that you know going forward, we can’t have those mistakes no more. And you know, (Ryan) Grubb was out there calling the you know best plays for us, and I just couldn’t you know make our plays matter.”

Alabama football has an opportunity to right the ship this week when the Crimson Tide takes on Texas A&M at home.
