Leonard Fournette feels he would have been a multiple-time Heisman Trophy winner if he had been a running back at Alabama under Nick Saban.

Fournette recently joined the “Downs 2 Business” podcast, and he showed his respect for Saban during the episode.

“He was a great coach,” Fournette said. “I think I probably would’ve been a 2-time Heisman Trophy winner if I would’ve went there.”

Josh Downs asked if Fournette felt he was robbed of the Heisman Trophy during the 2015-2016 season when Derrick Henry won the award.

“For sure,” Fournette responded. “He finished with 2,000 yards, right? He played 15 games, though. I finished with 1,953 with 12 games, 24 touchdowns. Back in those times, it was all the success went through your team though. Like, you know how they do now? They give it to like the individual player, like Travis Hunter got it, Lamar Jackson got it. If you winning, you undefeated, you gonna get it. But in my eyes, it goes to the best player. I was the best player in college football.”

Derrick Henry earned the Heisman Trophy after setting the SEC single-season rushing record with 1,986 rushing yards. He broke the record against Florida in the SEC Championship, which was the Tide’s thirteenth game of the season. The former Alabama running back also rushed for 23 touchdowns during the regular season.

Fournette rushed for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns in 12 games during the regular season.
