Alabama’s outside linebacker spot just got even thinner as head coach Nick Saban shared on the SEC Coaches Teleconference, that sophomore Drew Sanders will probably be out for the team’s upcoming game against Texas A&M.

“We’ve got a couple guys beat up,” Saban said. “Drew Sanders is probably gonna be out for this game, and of course, everybody knows about Jase (McClellan). We’re just trying to get the guys ready to go.”

Sanders suffered a hand injury that appeared to be worse than originally evaluated which will hold him out.

“He has a hand injury. It required surgery,” Saban said. “It was a little worse than we thought so he’s going to be game-to-game here for a few weeks, so we’ll just have to see how it goes.”

Sanders has filled in for senior outside linebacker Christopher Allen who was lost for the season with a foot injury suffered against Miami in the team’s season opener. In five games this season Sanders has totaled 20 tackles, 1.0 tackles for loss and two pass deflections.

Saban added that freshman linebacker Dallas Turner, as well as sophomore Chris Braswell, will be getting extended roles due to the injury.

“They don’t have a lot of experience,” Saban said. “That’s two starters at the same position that we’ve lost. But Dallas Turner is a good young player, and he’s probably gonna get more opportunity, as well as Chris Braswell, at that position, and those guys have played some. But they’re obviously gonna get more opportunity now.”
