Danny Lewis Jr. signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at the University of Alabama Wednesday.
Lewis is a product of Westgate High School in New Iberia, Louisiana. He is the 24th 2022 recruit to sign with the Crimson Tide. Most recruiting sites have Lewis listed as a three-star prospect, but Touchdown Alabama will have him rated as a four-star recruit in our own independent recruiting ratings and rankings of Tide commits.
Alabama went after Lewis late to add more depth to its tight end position, and the Louisiana product was one of the best available. The Tide offered him on Jan. 19 and got him on campus for an official visit a few days later. LSU and Florida hosted him for official visits last month as well.
Lewis’ visit to Tuscaloosa in January helped push Alabama to the top of his recruitment as he chose them over the Gators and the Tigers. Alabama’s defensive coordinator Pete Golding and the Tide’s special teams coach Drew Svobada led the way for Alabama in its push for Lewis.
The Alabama signee is listed at 6-foot-4 and weighs 235 pounds. He possesses a physical playing style and thrives in jump-ball situations. He is also capable of using his thick frame to box out defenders for catches in traffic, and the four-star is a tough runner after the catch.
