Alabama’s junior tight end O.J. Howard joined running back Derrick Henry and center Ryan Kelly as the three individuals that were awarded offensive player of the week by Alabama’s coaching staff. Howard made himself available against Wisconsin and put in a solid effort.
He totaled 37 receiving yards on three catches, including a 21-yard reception in the third quarter that set up a two-yard rushing touchdown from Henry. Howard flashed his hands as a receiver, but he also used them well in the run game.
He was responsible for two critical blocks in Henry’s touchdowns of 37 and 51 yards. Howard took on his first defender and used his speed to work to the second-level, in order to spring Henry downfield. Crimson Tide’s head coach Nick Saban wants Howard to be a complete tight end. The junior had a good performance in week one.
