Nick Saban expressed how happy he felt to see Jalen Hurts make it to the Super Bowl in a recent sit-down with Bill Cower and Vic Carucci.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am of seeing this guy in the Super Bowl, only because I know firsthand what he went through to get there,” Saban said.
Hurts played at Alabama from 2016 to 2018. He was 26-2 as a starter for the Crimson Tide. Unfortunately for the Texas native, he lost his starting job to Tua Tagovailoa during the 2018 football season, but he did not transfer from the University of Alabama.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback stayed at UA to obtain his degree.
Saban told Hurts during the 2018 football season he needed to work on becoming a better passer, so he could play in the NFL someday.
“You can’t just make plays with your feet, so this whole season I want you to focus in practice on reading coverage, being more instinctive with getting the ball out your hand quick, anticipating throws and windows, and understanding the passing game better,” Saban said.
