Alabama football and the Southeastern Conference have to wait a little longer for Texas and Oklahoma.
The charter members of the Big 12 Conference were expected to join the SEC in 2024. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports a delay in the process, and both schools will not join until 2025. The delay for the SEC came from both parties not coming to terms amid complex negotiations from both schools (Texas and Oklahoma), two networks (ESPN/FOX), and the Big 12.
Sources: The effort for Oklahoma and Texas to leave the Big 12 a year early and join the SEC in 2024 has stalled and at this point is unlikely to come to fruition.
