Kevin Steele, 64, returns to the University of Alabama as a defensive coordinator under Saban. He is excited to be back in Tuscaloosa after serving as a coordinator in 2007, an inside linebackers coach in 2008, a director of player personnel in 2013, and a linebackers coach in 2014. Steele assisted the Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship in 2014 and brought a toughness that helped Alabama win national championships in 2009, 2011, and 2012 when he was not with the program.

Steele said he ‘understands the expectations of Coach Saban and the program.’ He looks forward to continuing the success.

“My history with Coach Saban goes back a long time and what he has built here at Alabama is truly amazing,” Steele said.

In his third stint with the Crimson Tide, Steele brings a defensive blueprint that excelled at Auburn. He coordinated the Tigers’ defense from 2016-20, producing a top-20 scoring defense four times. Steele produced 14 NFL Draft picks during his tenure, including multiple first-rounders. Alabama wants to be the bully of college football again and having Steele back should help.
