Alabama kicked off the 2023 season Saturday with a defiant 56-7 victory of Middle Tennessee inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. But the Crimson Tide didn’t leave the game completely unscathed as a few defensive backs exited the game with injuries.

Following the contest, head coach Nick Saban shared his initial updates on the injured players.

“We got a couple guys banged up,” Saban said. “I don’t know the extent of their injuries, Jaylen Key and Malachi Moore both. But we’ll see how that goes. They’ll get evaluated tomorrow, probably know more soon.”

Both injuries occurred on special teams as Key carefully headed to the sidelines after covering on kickoff just before halftime. He would later be replaced by Kristian Story at safety.

Moore’s injury took place while blocking on a return for Kool-Aid McKinstry where he needed assistance from the medical staff to walk to the medical tent. Moore would also leave to the locker room and Alabama would shift Terrion Arnold to STAR and bring Trey Amos in at cornerback.

Sources did inform Touchdown Alabama following the game that Moore is OK following the injury.

Alabama will return to work Monday to prepare for its matchup with Texas on Saturday, Sept. 10 inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.
