Courtney Morgan provided a detailed explanation of his role as Alabama football’s first general manage during an interview with 247 Sports.
Morgan joined the Crimson Tide’s staff after Kalen DeBoer was hired as the Tide’s head coach. He worked under DeBoer in the same role at Washington and describes it as a position with multiple layers when asked about the role.
“I think the 50 foot answer is to bring together elite individuals in the building that can help lead the direction to what we trying to do to win a National Championship,” Morgan answered. “It changes everywhere I go. It is more resources here in Alabama, so I was able to bring more people in…Secondly, it is roster management, understanding now you have to do a lot of projection. So, always projecting the future of the roster while constantly, consistently evaluating the current roster. I oversee the evaluation and the recruiting process, two different thing. You got evaluate and you got to go get them. You have to be able to adapt to the staff you have on how you set up the system. Every staff is different.”
