He was not properly developed at Texas A&M, but Kane Wommack is seeing him take off for Alabama football.

LT Overton, a transfer from the Aggies, put fear in Wisconsin last week.

He finished with six total tackles, including a tackle for loss and a sack in the Crimson Tide’s 42-10 victory. Overton also had a pass breakup and a forced fumble. A former five-star from Milton, Ga., Overton can be the elite specialist Alabama needs on the defensive line to consistently pressure quarterbacks and set the edge. He wears No. 22, a number formerly worn by former Tide standout Ryan Anderson.

Anderson, a native of Daphne, Ala., became one of the best pass-rush specialist of the Nick Saban era.

Overton has that kind of ability and should put on a show against Georgia next week in a Southeastern Conference showdown on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

After watching the Bulldogs struggle with Kentucky’s defensive front, Overton carries more ability and moves to affect Carson Beck. Coach Wommack sees Overton as the best on-body rusher on the defense.

“When you go back and watch the tape, it is impressive to see how dominant LT was in the game,” Wommack said about Overton’s performance versus Wisconsin. “He continues to show up. He does a very good job of transitioning to pass rush, very physical at the point of attack. He shows up on a level of physicality, he plays with a very high motor, and he is very efficient and effective in what we are doing right now.”

Wommack said Overton has a presence in pass rush and against the run.

He will be vital for the Tide to get Beck on the ground and negate the Bulldogs’ run game.
