Alabama’s offensive line was a hot topic after Friday’s scrimmage for Kalen DeBoer.
Kalen DeBoer names critical area for transfer Alabama OL to improve
He highlighted the aspects that pleased him – including Racin Delgatty, Jackson Lloyd, Michael Carroll, and Jayvin James – but he also wants consistency from the unit. Nick Brooks, a transfer from Texas, and Mal Waldrep have worked at both guard spots in spring practice – yet DeBoer confirmed to reporters about not forgetting a significant name.
Will Sanders eyes starting chance at LG
William Sanders, a redshirt sophomore, has not practiced this spring because of recovering from an injury in 2025.
The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder from Brookwood (Ala.) played in 17 career games as a reserve left guard.
Sanders, a former four-star in the 2024 recruiting cycle, saw action in 15 matchups last season – especially 148 snaps during the regular season. He brings power as an interior lineman with the ability to pass protect also. Alabama desires for its new offensive line coach, Adrian Klemm, to find the right combination up front.
DeBoer feels Sanders is part of the combination.
DeBoer tells what he’s seen from Alabama football’s new defensive line transfers
“You guys know that Will Sanders is not in there right now,” DeBoer said about who he likes at offensive guard for Alabama after Friday’s scrimmage. “Obviously, he would be thrown into the mix with his experience and ability.”
DeBoer stated the Crimson Tide is trying to figure out the right side of its line, which means an expectation is there for Sanders to start at left guard. The possibility of the Tide having Lloyd, Sanders, Delgatty, Carroll, and James as its starting five is good.
If this becomes the group, Alabama would at least have an opportunity to be really good.
