On Friday, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban joined the Pat McAfee Show and had several interesting things to say. Some commentary that stood out was his thoughts on former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick potentially coaching at the college level.
“Bill Belichick is an outstanding coach and I think that he would do a great job in college…”, Saban said, “College football is a lot more like the NFL now as well.”
Saban and Belichick worked alongside one another from 1991-1994. The two were a part of the Cleveland Browns coaching staff. Over the years, the two of them have remained close and kept in close contact. Over the years, Belichick has coached multiple players that Saban recruited and developed at Alabama.
Belichick reportedly interviewed for the head coaching position at North Carolina in the past few days. Belichick wants to coach again in 2025 and coaching at the college level is not out of the question. Belichick has never coached at the college level. As Saban alluded to, college football is slowly evolving and become more similar to the NFL. Therefore, that would play into Belichick’s favor as he would not have to make a massive adjustment if he were to accept a head coaching position at a college.
Will Belichick end up as North Carolina’s head coach or the coach of another college football program? We will have to wait and see, but Saban seems to be behind Belichick making the move to the college level.
