Alabama football has 13 games on its 2028 schedule after announcing it will open the season against Georgia State on Sept. 2, meaning it will have to back out of one of its previous scheduled matchups.
The Tide currently has matchups with Utah State, Ohio State and Oklahoma State slated to follow its home opener against the Panthers in 2028. A nine-game SEC schedule will follow those games, pushing the Tide’s total 2028 games to 13.
There has been chatter about the Alabama and Ohio State home-and-home series, slated to start in 2027, being canceled recently. These discussions have started to gain more steam, due to the SEC moving to a nine-game schedule and the risk that playing a marquee non-conference opponent poses to teams’ College Football Playoff hopes.
The SEC will start its nine-game SEC slate in the fall. Alabama will open SEC play against Kentucky on Sept. 12 in Lexington.
