If there’s one position on the 15 time National Champion Crimson Tide that puts more players in the NFL than most other schools, it’s the offensive line. Names like Fluker, Smith, and Warmack have taken the skills they refined in the SEC to dominate at the pro level. With the departure of O-line mainstays Cyrus Foundation and Anthony Steen, Head Coach Nick Saban and his staff will look to returning veterans to help fill the holes and educate the incoming freshman on the tradition and expectations that come with manning the trenches in Alabama.
This year’s recruiting class boasts some of the biggest names in the country at tackle and guard taking their talents to Tuscaloosa; non bigger though than West Monroe High School’s Cameron Robinson. A consensus All American out of Monroe Louisiana, Robinson dominated D-line men on his way to an appearance in the 2014 Under Armour All-American game and a spot on the USA Today’s 2013 first team All-USA list.

Robinson received offers from across the nation, drawing comparisons to the top tackles in the country, including Alabama’s own Cyrus Kouandjio. A massive build with quick reflexes and sharp instincts at one of the most crucial positions on the offense. “Big Cam”, as he’s been called, turned down all other offers when Saban and company came calling, reassuring Tide fans everywhere that the legendary O-lines of the past would have another successor to their legacies.
As with all new recruits to play in Bryant-Denny, Robinson’s capabilities will be tested on a daily bases before the Coaching staff decides when to introduce him to the national stage. A dominating force at left tackle in High School, Robinson displays great tenacity off the snap, matched by a motor that never quits. Standing 6’5” and coming in at 330lbs, Robinson’s power lies in his run blocking.
Deceptive speed and All-SEC caliber strength make Cameron a run blocking force at tackle, especially when pulled for a counter block or in a toss. When matched with the likes of Arie Kouandjio, Austin Shepherd, and Leon Brown, Robinson has the potential to help create an offensive line built for a Nick Saban style running game that the Tide hasn’t seen since the days of Ingram and Richardson.
With all incoming freshman, there is still room for improvement that the coaching staff will focus their time on this summer. Robinson maybe a force in the running game, but his footwork and hands in pass protection will need work. Hand placement and following through with the block are areas he will need to focus on over summer and fall practices if he looks to earn significant playing time this season. The best option for Robinson in his freshman year might be to split time between the tackle and guard positions on the right side of the line. Getting some experience there will not only better the run game in the short term, but give him the opportunity to better his pass protection in game and introduce the nation to Alabama’s next big name O-lineman.
