The hot topic during DeVonta Smith’s media availability was the concerns over his weight. Smith fielded multiple questions regarding his ability to play at his size as well as questions regarding his precise weight.
In the beginning, Smith played things coy by giving answers stating he’s been weighing the “same thing I’ve been weighing” as the questions continued.
Smith eventually shared that he is currently weighing 170 pounds after the team’s website listed Smith at 175 pounds for 2020.
Despite the concerns over his weight, it hasn’t been an issue for Smith up to this point as he is coming off of a Heisman Trophy-winning season while breaking numerous Alabama records along the way. Smith is also valued as one of the top wide receivers in the upcoming NFL Draft and isn’t letting the worries get to him.
“I feel like it’s not gonna be no different than college,” Smith said. “I played against some of the best in college. I played in the SEC. I feel like it’s the toughest conference there is. I know a lot of people that’s bigger than that have more problems than me, so I’m not worried about it at all.”
For teams trying to get a closer look at Smith, they will need to wait as the wideout said he will not be participating in the team’s Pro Day drills.
