Alabama football holds a commitment from 10 2025 recruits with Kalen DeBoer’s first class taking shape.

In a bit of an unexpected twist, DeBoer who is considered to be more of an offensive mind is building his first class in Tuscaloosa with a defensive base.

Seven of the Tide’s current 2025 commits are projected to line up on the defensive side of the football at the next level. Here is a breakdown of what each brings to the table:

Darrell Johnson  - 4-Star ATH

At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Johnson is one of the most explosive and electric prospects in the country. He has the ability to play at all three levels on the defensive side of the football and gets after the football like a heat-seeking missile. The Georgia product is the type of defensive player coaches dream about to defend the fast and athletic offensive players in today’s game.

Derick Smith - 4-Star ATH

The in-state recruit is one of the most versatile prospects in the country. He has the potential to play on either side of the football at the next level, and although the expectation is that he will play wide receiver for the Tide, the door is going to be open for him to be a defender in the future. He is too good there for it not to be a thought. He plays a physical brand of football and is an all-around athlete.

Anthony Rogers - 4-Star RB

Rogers is making a case to be one of the most complete backs in the 2025 recruiting class. He has proven explosive speed with several sub-11 100-meter dash performances as a track sprinter. He is now 190 pounds, and his frame is looking promising ahead of his return to Alabama for his senior season after playing at IMG Academy as a junior. The Alabama native has also shown his ability to be a dynamic playmaker in the passing game out of the backfield.

Jaedon Harmon - 4-Star LB

At 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, Harmon flies over the field for Rome with his ability to play sideline to sideline. He gets after the football with relentless effort and plays with a lot of tenacity. He also has a great feel for the snap of the football as he times the snap extremely well to blow up plays in the backfield when blitzing. He also has experience rushing from the edge and playing off the ball. The new Alabama commit finished his junior season with 80 tackles and five sacks.

Myles Johnson - 4-Star LB

Johnson is one of the more interesting Alabama commits because he missed his entire sophomore season. He should be able to put everyone on notice this season when he makes a return to the field. The T.R. Miller product can stack-and-shed with the best of them with his ability to take on blocks, get off of them and get to the ball carrier. He is also a thumper, who makes ball carriers go backwards when he makes contact. He also can lower the boom and make big hits in space.

Antonio Coleman - 4-Star DT

Coleman is quick off the football and can disrupt plays early in their development. He is strong and powerful in the trenches with his ability to push offensive linemen into the backfield. Coleman is also a relentless pass rusher when quarterbacks drop back and once he gets his hands on a ball carrier, the play usually ends shortly after. He does not have the length a lot of college programs go after along the defensive front, but his play more than makes up for it. He finished his junior season with 70 tackles and six sacks.

Zymear Smith - 4-Star ATH

At 6-foot and 170 pounds, Smith reportedly can run a 4.44 forty-yard dash. He is an explosive playmaker, who can create excitement no matter where he gets the football. He is absolutely dangerous when the football in his hands as he can change direction n a dime and quickly accelerate into anther gear. Similar to Smith, he could play on either side of the football. As a safety, he attacks the football with great closing speed.

Abduall Sanders - 4-Star LB

Sanders is yet another sideline-to-sideline linebacker committed to Alabama. He makes a case to be among the best pass defenders in this group as he flows around with great mobility and comfort when called upon to drop back in coverage while also containing opposing quarterbacks with a great feel for when to drop out of coverage and go after a quarterback.

Lotzeir Brooks - 3-Star WR

Brooks is a speedster at wide receiver, and it makes him extremely dangerous. He has the type of speed that gives defensive coordinators nightmares as he is a threat to leave defenders grasping for air every time he touches the football.

Luke Metz - 3-Star LB

Metz is a 6-foot-3 linebacker, who is effective at reading and attacking as he sifts through traffic and meets ball carriers in the hole. The 2025 prospect appears to play with his hair on fire. Metz feels his athleticism and his physicality are just a few of the strong points of his game.
