Larry’s Losers in the SEC – Week 8 – 2013

Larry’s Losers in the SEC – Week 8 – 2013

By: Larry Burton

Well folks, we hit all the games correctly last week except the Missouri game. We thought the big bad Bulldogs still had enough bite to tame the Tigers, but the injuries were just too much and the Tigers were just too good. But we’ll take the one loss and go on to this week and hope the upset bug has been cured except for the ones that I pick with the Pug.

But that might be a tall order this week, as lots of this weeks week’s games have us both scratching our heads and at least mine is not from fleas. So we better get cracking.

Georgia at Vanderbilt – Starting at 11:00am (all times CST) the battered Bulldogs are still licking their wounds as they trot the members of the pooch pack into Song City, Tennessee to try and get things back on track for a winning and SEC East title and they’re still counting the numbers to see how many can play and how many are still walking wounded.

Vanderbilt’s James Franklin is a man who is a victim of his own success. He’s taken Vandy to two bowl games and now instead of being an every twenty year thing or so, they’ll be disappointed if they don’t go this year and he’s got three more games to go. But he’ll have to find them elsewhere as these Bulldogs still have the bite to back up their bark against these Tennessee sailor boys.

The Bulldogs take to the water to meet the Commodores, so it’s all Dogs on deck!

South Carolina at Tennessee – Also at 11:00 am, Spurrier’s spurred Carolina cluckers head over to Hardknocksville where the Vols might not win the game, but they may win the body count and they’d like nothing more than to be the fox in the hen house this weekend.

But with Georgia losing, the Old Ball Coach sees an opening and he thinks he can get this team to flap their wings all the way back to Atlanta if he can just keep these cluckers from laying another egg this season on a Saturday afternoon. This Tennessee team is one that’s gonna catch somebody good at a bad time, but it won’t be this week. Maybe….

Florida at Missouri – In this weeks silly 11:21 am kickoff time, those gaggle of Gators from Gainesville gather for the first time in Missouri to take on the hottest team in the SEC East and try and take that title for themselves.

But Pinkel’s pussycats aren’t about to let some overgrown slimy salamanders slide into their stadium and slay them, even if their number one slinger is sidelined with a shoulder separation.

This is going to be one of the most entertaining games of the weekend because even with a backup ball flinger, these Tigers have a heck of an offense and the Gators gathered the SEC’s best defense. So the question is, who gets hotter faster?

Larry’s Loser – Missouri

Missouri may learn that even big Cats don’t mess with Gators.

Auburn at Texas A&M – At 2:30pm the Auburn Tigers try to manage the Aggie’s Manziel and try and become the second Alabama team to keep that lightning in a bottle. But something tells me that Short Bus Gus, the new head coach at Auburn, gets a lesson on what a real offense looks like in this one.

The question in this game isn’t as much the tale of two offenses, but which defense can stop the other the most and there will be scoring and lots of it. The Aggies give about as much as they take against decent teams and the Plains Pusscats have been a bit stingier, so this could be a harder fought game than most think and could be close, but in the end, a star does his shining.

LSU at Ole Miss – The night time 6:00 pm game sees a doosey as old rivals square off at Oxford. Les Miles and his man eating maulers try and rip the Rebels at home in front of packed house. Last week these Johnny Rebs also beat the Aggies, but they aren’t celebrating any “moral victories” here and know that only way to earn respect in the SEC is to beat it out of your opponent.

Les Miles knows he could have his hands full in this one, but these bayou brawlers have started thumping and bumping people on defense like the Tigers of old and that could mean trouble for a team that has to also try and muzzle a Metzenberger. This is another of those games that could go either way with a fumble here and big stop there, but Ole Miss may be just too young to tame this Tiger.

Larry’s Loser – Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Bears figured out if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.

Arkansas at Alabama – The other 6:00 pm contest is the battle of little nosed vs big nosed tusked ones in Tuscaloosa as the short nosed snout Hogs of Arkansas battle the long trunked tusked ones from Alabama. Nick Saban thinks he finally has pachyderms ready for another three ring circus in the big top of the BCS and it’s hard to argue that they aren’t.

But Bret Bielema’s boys have started showing signs of coming around to be a real contender in this slap you up ‘side the head conference called the SEC. But in the end, the difference between one team already being there and one team trying to get there becomes apparent and the elephants will still be picking pigs from between their toes on Sunday.

Larry’s Loser – Arkansas

This is a fight the Hogs must be dreading.

And this week two of the SEC’s cellar dwellers have a week off. The Mississippi Mutts are taking the week off to continue celebrating a big win over Bowling Green. And the Mildcats from Kentucky are going to spend a week licking their wounds from the pachyderm pummeling they got last week.

Next week they line up against each other to determine the bottom of the barrel winner for the SEC.

So till next week, the pigskin picking pug and I wish you a wonderful weekend of watching warriors wage unwelcoming war on each other and may the team that you love not wind up on the the list of losers.
