The reserve Alabama linebacker is quickly finding success on the baseball diamond.
Redshirt freshman Keith Holcombe was the Crimson Tide’s hero Friday night, as he drove in the winning run on a walk-off single against North Dakota at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Craziness occurred in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Alabama had two runners on base with no outs. A wild pitch from North Dakota moved runners into scoring position.
Freshman Cobi Vance was due up to bat, yet head coach Mitch Gaspard decided to pinch hit bringing in Holcombe.
He knocked the ball up the middle, which scored freshman Chandler Taylor from third base in Alabama’s 2-1 victory.
Holcombe’s performance gives the Tide its fourth victory of the season (4-1), extending its win streak to three games.
The Tuscaloosa native is batting .400 on the season with two runs scored and a .500 slugging percentage.
