Falcons’ WR Julio Jones sets tone for minicamp

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones (No. 11) makes catch vs. Carolina Panthers in 2015: Jason Getz - USA TODAY Sports

To say Julio Jones is the face of Atlanta sports would be stating the obvious.

He enters next season as the highest paid wide receiver in the National Football League, and one that gives defensive backs the most problems. The three-time Pro Bowl attendee (2012, 2014-15) set the tone for Atlanta on Tuesday, to kick off mandatory mini-camp. The Falcons tweeted multiple videos from its social media handle of Jones running routes and snatching passes. With Roddy White gone, the former Alabama standout is officially Matt Ryan’s primary target on offense.

Jones is coming off a remarkable year in 2015, where he totaled 1,871 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 136 catches. He led the NFL in receiving yards, while being tied for first in receptions. His efforts granted him a single-season franchise (yards) record, and he was named first-team All-Pro. A deep run in the postseason is the next thing for Jones and the Falcons to conquer.
