Last night was anything but a breeze for Reuben Foster. Despite being projected as a top-15 talent in nearly every mock draft, Foster found himself still waiting for a call in the latter stages of the first round. Fortunately for him, when it rains it pours.
Reuben Foster was on phone with #Saints (32nd pick) when #49ers called to say he was theirs at 31. Here he tells how story goes: pic.twitter.com/RW1SaREUa0

In the video above he says that he was already on the phone with the Saints (#32 pick) when the 49ers (#31) called to welcome him aboard. And it may be for the best.
San Francisco GM John Lynch played the part of mastermind in the first round. He fleeced the Chicago Bears, taking two thirds and a fourth round pick from them and allowed them move up ONE SPOT in the draft.
With their third overall pick they took late-bloomer Solomon Thomas then bolstered their defense again the pick of Foster. Reuben steps into a good situation with newly hired head coach Kyle Shanahan. Though the 49ers were a disappointment a season ago, their rebuilding efforts have started off strong. Finding a cornerstone at inside linebacker – which Reuben Foster can be – is the quickest way to return to form.
Additionally, should Foster’s shoulder continue to be an issue, the 49ers are not yet a playoff team so they can wait and allow him the time he may need to nurse it. Ultimately, fans will likely look back at this pick as a steal,
