Saban Believes This is One of the Best Recruiting Staff He’s Ever Had

Cedric Mason Touchdown Alabama Magazine

A head coach’s opening statement at media days is very important. They get a chance to share where their team stands heading into Fall practice and express how they feel about the changes they have made this off-season.

Nick Saban brought up a ton during his opening statement and one of the biggest takeaways was his reference to his new coaching staff and how they have brought a new and energetic feel to the Tide, which has really help them on the recruiting trail.

“And with six new coaches this year, a new offensive coordinator, new defensive coordinator, new special teams coordinator,” Saban said. “I am really pleased with the transition. The players have sort of responded from a relationship standpoint with all of those coaches. Those coaches have done a very good job of buying into the things that we want to do and how we want to do them. The new energy and enthusiasm and ideas that they brought to the organization are going to be a long-term positive.”

Saban also went on to say that he feels this staff is very effective in terms of recruiting.

“I think this is also one of the better-recruiting staffs that we’ve had, and I think that’s going to be beneficial for us in the future as well,” Saban added.

There are numbers that back what Saban said. The Tide’s 2019 class is currently ranked as No.1 and is looking to bounce back from the last recruiting cycle. They currently have 20 commits and are on track to keep that NO.1 spot.

Alabama recruits and targets have both responded well to this new coaching staff.

“There is a fresh more energetic feel around the program, which I think has been a huge thing in recruiting” Alabama 5-Star commit, Pierce Quick said.

Recruiting is a continuous fight and coaches must stay on the ball. Today’s high school prospect live in a generation that is a bit different than the one many coaches grew up in. The Tide’s new hire are young and can connect with recruits in a different way, which has done wonders for the Tide.
