“I am humbled and honored to be name the 2018 Polynesian college football player of the year,” Tagovailoa said. “First and foremost I want to thank my lord and savior, Jesus Christ for this opportunity. I also want to thank my family for continued support throughout this process.”
This award is presented by the Polynesian football hall of fame. It is awarded annually to the most outstanding college football player of Polynesian ancestry. The inaugural award was presented to Marcus Mariota in 2014.
Tagovailoa is the first Alabama player to win the award. He continues to collect multiple individual awards to add to his trophy case. He has made multiple All-American teams and has won the Walter Camp player of the year award, the SEC offensive player of the year award and the Maxwell Award.
Tua’s younger brother, Taulia Tagovailoa, is up for the high school Polynesian player of the year award.
