Former Tide QB Jalen Hurts takes to Oklahoma as transfer school

He announced his decision on Wednesday via The Players’ Tribune, and while Alabama fans don’t like the fact of Jalen Hurts going to Oklahoma, they have come to respect it.

For three seasons, he turned in strong numbers and showed the character, determination and integrity that embodies the University of Alabama.

Hurts, a native Texan, was a part of two Southeastern Conference championship teams – including a 35-28 comeback victory over Georgia in 2018, which he engineered at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Hurts now joins forces with Lincoln Riley in the Big 12 and has an opportunity to do what both Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray have accomplished: win a Heisman Trophy.

As an improved quarterback, the former four-star has a chance to win the starting job for the Sooners and navigate the program back to the College Football Playoff.

In Thursday’s airing of In My Own Words, Stephen Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine recaps Hurts’ decision and goes into the returning pieces that he’ll work with next fall.
