As teams dive into conference play this week, the intensity of games will start to ramp up — especially with the push toward the College Football Playoff. With the month of October coming in a few days, the Heisman Trophy picture is also starting to take shape. Despite numerous candidates beginning as preseason hopefuls, there are five individuals that have separated themselves as primary frontrunners.
Tua Tagovailoa of the University of Alabama is one of the five.
The junior quarterback from Hawaii has looked better this year than last season, and he is completely shattering passing records for the Crimson Tide. Pairing him back with Steve Sarkisian, Alabama’s offensive coordinator, has made the former five-star much stronger in his decision making. Through four games, he accounts for 1,300 yards passing, 18 touchdowns (one rushing) and no turnovers. He is currently second all-time in career scoring tosses (71) and fifth in career passing yards (5,902) behind Andrew Zow, Brodie Croyle, John Parker Wilson and the leader, AJ McCarron (9,019).
