On Monday, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa underwent successful surgery on his dislocated hip which according to team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lyle Cain.
Below is a statement released by the university:
“Tua underwent successful surgery on his right hip Monday morning in Houston,” said Cain. “The procedure went as planned, and he is resting comfortably. Tua’s prognosis is excellent, and we expect him to make a full recovery. He will return to Tuscaloosa in the next several days to begin his rehab.”
Tagovailoa suffered the injury during last Saturday’s game against Mississippi State where he was sacked on third down right before the end of the half. he was carted off of the field and immediately flown to St. Vincent Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.
Head coach Nick Saban was asked about his decision to leave in the star quarterback despite leading the Bull Dogs 35-7.
“I don’t really make a lot of those decisions based on worrying about guys getting hurt,” said Saban. “…The way I look at this whole thing is Tua’s our No. 1 quarterback. If he’s physically able to play, we wanted to play him in the game. That’s what he wanted to do, and that’s what our team wanted to do. If I would know that anything bad was going to happen, I certainly wouldn’t have put him in that situation, but we’re a team.”
The junior quarterback will miss the rest of the season and sophomore quarterback Mac Jones will be the man leading the offense from here on out. Jones started his first career game during a 48-7 win over Arkansas where he threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns
