People are talking Mac Jones versus Bryce Young for Alabama’s quarterback race, but the real competition is between Young and Paul Tyson.
Should we have a college football season, Nick Saban feels safer starting the experienced Jones – especially after he performed admirably last year in the absence of Tua Tagovailoa (hip injury) and ran the offense well.
Young’s athleticism and passing abilities bring much excitement to the quarterback room; however, Tyson has been emerging this summer.
A four-star in the 2019 recruiting cycle from Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) High School, Tyson is currently training with an elite quarterback developer in Lavelle Durant out of Seattle, Wash.
In the videos and photos shared to social media, Tyson looks focused and his mechanics appear to be very sharp. He possesses ideal size (6-5/240 pounds) and has the mental fortitude to be a national champion for the Crimson Tide.
While Tyson is working, Alabama continues to gain talent for its 2021 recruiting class.
On Friday, it pulled verbal commitments from the Texas legacy in Tommy Brockermeyer and James Brockermeyer. Tide fans had been waiting to see what the twins would do and with Alabama landing both, it has the opportunity to sign the No. 1 offensive class for 2021.
The Tide has 14 verbal commitments – including three five-stars in Tommy Brockermeyer, JC Latham and Agiye Hall.
According to Justin Smith, the lead scouting and recruiting analyst for Touchdown Alabama Magazine, only Latham carries a diamond grade.
The native Floridian has a diamond grade of one, which means he will be an “immediate contributor and game changer.”
Both Durant and Smith were featured with yours truly of TDA on Friday via In My Own Words.
