When he is not training players and gathering data, David Ballou is reminding people why he’s the best in his field.
As the Director of Sports Performance at the University of Alabama, Ballou shared a video to his Instagram of him displaying massive strength on an incline bench press. With the song “Hypnotized” by the Notorious B.I.G. playing in the background, Ballou and his spotter were both wearing masks inside the Mal Moore Athletic Complex. The assistant strength coach aided Ballou, but the Crimson Tide’s latest addition showed why he’s the master strength coach.
After watching his coach put in the work, redshirt junior Phidarian Mathis commented on Ballou’s Instagram story with saying: “Real OG steppa.” Mathis, a defensive lineman, is looking forward to having a huge role as a contributor or potential starter.
Ballou has been successful at every program, both high school and college, that he served at.
Now at Alabama, he and Dr. Matt Rhea have been tasked the responsibility of getting players faster and stronger than ever. Along with this, Nick Saban looks forward to seeing a decrease in injuries and an increase in flexibility.
Since their arrivals in March, both coaches have been as good as advertised.

Currently, Alabama is in the advanced stage of the NCAA’s preseason practice plan. Student-athletes are training up to eight hours per week with Ballou and Rhea, while having six hours of walk throughs (with a football) and six hours of meetings.
Should things continue to trend forward, fall camp is scheduled to start on Aug. 7.
