Alabama football kept its perfect season intact with a 41-0 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs Saturday inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Crimson Tide improved to 6-0 with its latest win. Alabama’s senior wide receiver, DeVonta Smith stole the show with an extraordinary four-touchdown performance, which allowed him to tie Amari Cooper for most receiving touchdowns in a career by an Alabama wide receiver with 31 career receiving touchdowns. Not to be out done, Alabama’s defense did not allow a single point.
This is the first shut out of the season for Alabama’s defensive group.
Mac Jones finished the game with 291 passing yards and four touchdowns. Najee Harris added an impressive 119 rushing yards on 21 attempts. On the defensive side of the football, Malachi Moore lead Alabama in tackles with six. Dylan Moses and Brian Branch followed with five tackles. Moses added an interception, which stop Mississippi State from scoring when they were in the red zone in the third quarter.
Will Reichard put the Crimson Tide on the board first with a 40-yard field goal on the Tide’s opening drive. It quickly became the DeVonta Smith show after that as the Louisiana native pulled in all three of Alabama’s touchdowns in the first half while the Tide’s defense kept the Bulldogs scoreless.
Smith would pull in a 10-yard touchdown reception to push the Tide’s lead to 34-0 in the third quarter. Alabama’s cornerback, Patrick Surtain came up with a pick six late in the fourth quarter to give Alabama a 41-0 lead.
Alabama’s ability to control the game allowed them the opportunity to play some of its young talent. Freshman wide receivers, Javon Baker, Traeshon Holden and Thaiu Jones-Bell all saw playing time on offense along with Bryce Young.
Alabama football will have a BYE next week and will resume play on Nov. 14 when they travel to Baton Rouge to take on LSU.
