The Miami Dolphins see something special in Tua Tagovailoa and it’s willing to do everything possible to pull it out.
According to Cameron Wolfe, a Dolphins’ beat reporter for ESPN, the franchise hired Charlie Frye to be Tagovailoa’s quarterback coach.
The move comes after the firing of Chan Gailey at offensive coordinator and departure of Robby Brown at QB coach.

Prior to the report from Wolfe, the Dolphins broke the news via its Twitter account.

When it selected Tagovailoa at No. 5 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Miami felt like it made the right choice. The former University of Alabama standout had some great moments in his rookie year — including a pair of 300-yard passing games, three games of tossing at least two touchdown passes, and helping the team to five of its 10 wins. As talented as he is, the native Hawaiian is continuing to work his way back from a serious hip injury he sustained in 2019 with the Crimson Tide.
After stating its commitment to Tagovailoa, the Dolphins brought in someone who is very familiar with its signal caller.

Charlie Frye, 39, worked with Tagovailoa for eight days at the Elite 11 QB competition and The Opening Finals in the summer of 2016.
Under the leadership of Trent Dilfer, the Elite 11 is an event where the best high school quarterbacks in the nation go to train and gain national exposure, in terms of getting on the radar of college teams. Frye put in time with Tagovailoa and after he struggled at first, the Ohio native and former NFL quarterback coached the 2018 Heisman finalist into being the Elite 11 MVP.
Prior to getting hired by the Dolphins, Frye was the offensive coordinator/QB’s coach at Central Michigan for the last two years.
The Chippewas averaged over 30 points per game in 2019 and 2020.
Frye spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks and Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders in the NFL from 2005 to 2009.
