Alabama football is graduating just one marquee player from its secondary to the NFL Draft: Patrick Surtain II.
Everyone else returns and it also brings in a new group of talented freshmen. He arrived as a four-star recruit in 2020, but Malachi Moore ended the year as one of the most consistent players.
A native of Trussville, Ala., Moore constantly attacked the football and forced four turnovers.
He carried a team-high three interceptions and returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

He did not record a sack, but Moore filled up other areas on the stats sheet.
As he is back as a sophomore, an interesting thought is whether or not the Crimson Tide has considered transitioning him to safety? He was one of the top safety prospects in last year’s recruiting cycle and played well at the position during his senior year at Hewitt-Trussville High School. Moore collected 83 tackles (46 solo stops), five tackles for loss, and four interceptions.
He returned two of his takeaways for scores in 2019 for the Huskies.
Nick Saban is about getting his best athletes on the field. He wants them at positions where they can be successful.
Alabama is expected to be more defensive-oriented in the fall. After seeing what the safety role did for Minkah Fitzpatrick and Eddie Jackson, it is time to think about what it could do for Moore.
