Former Alabama player says Mac Jones is not better than Justin Fields

We are three weeks from the NFL Draft, and the quarterback conversation is getting hotter.

Mac Jones is one of the top signal-callers for this year’s event. He enters the NFL after guiding the University of Alabama to a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2020. Despite his accomplishments, not many people see Jones as one of the best quarterbacks in the draft. One former Crimson Tide standout, in particular, sees Justin Fields as a better prospect than Jones.

Le’Ron McClain played fullback at Alabama from 2003 to 2006. After playing under Mike Shula, the Tuscaloosa native was selected in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent seven seasons in the NFL (2007-13) with the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers. The two-time Pro Bowl selection and 2008 First-Team NFL All-Pro is higher on Fields than Jones. Both players battled in the CFP National Championship, and Jones delivered the Tide to a 52-24 victory.

A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Jones recorded 464 passing yards (CFP title game record) with five touchdowns.

Jones was doubted throughout his tenure at Alabama, but he proved critics wrong.

He is prepared to do the same thing in the pros.
