As we prepare to enter the summer, it is time to familiarize ourselves with some other freshmen via Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class. The summer enrollees will arrive on campus either late this month or early June. It can be difficult to come in and push for a starting job; however, these young athletes are fearless.
In this series, the staff writers for Touchdown Alabama Magazine will highlight the summer prospects that have the best opportunity to compete for early playing time in the fall for the Crimson Tide.
The fifth profile goes to Dallas Turner.
Dallas Turner
–Hometown: Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
–Position: Outside Linebacker
–Height: 6-4
–Weight: 245 pounds
–Skills: Size, athleticism, length, speed, versatility, pass-rushing, explosive moves
–Summary: William Anderson, a native of Hampton, Ga., exploded onto the scene for Alabama as a freshman at outside linebacker in the 2020 season. He finished as one of the team leaders for sacks (seven) and tackles for loss (10.5), while his eight quarterback pressures led the team. Anderson was selected to the Freshman All-SEC team and was named Shaun Alexander National Freshman of the Year.
After watching him dominate the competition, Dallas Turner decided to sign with Alabama.
The Crimson Tide has a lot of talent behind Anderson and Christopher Allen.
Names such as Drew Sanders, Chris Braswell, King Mwikuta, Jarez Parks, Quandarrius Robinson, and Keanu Koht are pushing for playing time in the fall. Turner received premiere coaching at two elite high schools, American Heritage and St. Thomas Aquinas, in the state of Florida. The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder has athleticism, length, speed, power, and explosive pass rush moves to be effective for the Tide.
In studying his tape, Turner forced fumbles, he won the edge against the run, and he constantly collapsed the pocket for sacks.
He is the fifth 5-star outside linebacker that Alabama has signed in the last two classes.
It will be a challenge, but Turner has the ability to pass up Koht, Robinson, Parks, and Mwikuta.
If he can do it, Turner will be in the driver’s seat to see action on defense.
