What does Agiye Hall’s recent tweet mean?

Agiye Hall has not played much as a freshman, but the wide receiver is one of the most popular players among Alabama fans.

People at Bryant-Denny Stadium fell in love with his potential in the spring game. They saw the size (6-3/195), balance, body control, and big hands he possessed on the field. After he totaled four catches for 72 receiving yards, most considered him the best receiver on the team and a possible starter. Hall has played in five games and totals two receptions. Crimson Tide fans have been perplexed all year because they want to know why the receiver that showed them a lot of potential on A-Day has disappeared.

During the season, Hall has been active on social media. He shared some cryptic thoughts on Twitter but deleted them too.

His latest tweet is one Alabama fans cannot seem to make out.

He posted the ending scene from the music video Men In Black, where Will Smith used a neuralizer to freeze and erase memories.

A neuralyzer is an electro bio-mechanical neural transmitting zero synapse repositioner. It is a top secret device used in the movie, Men In Black, to wipe the mind of anybody who sees the flash via isolating and editing certain electronic impulses related to memory. When a victim’s memory is erased, the agents have to make up a story to replace the victim’s erased memory and pass it off as the truth. The electronic pulses are so strong that only wearing Ray-band glasses can prevent the effects from happening.

In the chorus of Smith’s song, it says “they won’t let you remember.” Smith and his team delete the memories of bad guys and control the narrative. Smith says, “sorry” at the end of the scene in using the device, which is the GIF Hall uses in his tweet.

So, what is Hall trying to convey to us with this tweet?

Will Smith - Men In Black (Video Version)

Maybe, he wants to erase the memory of this year from our minds. He was projected to be a superstar player, but he has not been able to show it. Hall wants to control the narrative and tell his own story. If he wants to erase the memory of the regular season, he can achieve it by performing well in College Football Playoff prep. Hall can also make sure everything is in order off the field.

However, what if the tweet is signaling a departure from the Tide?

We live in the transfer portal era in college football.

Student-athletes have the power to go elsewhere when they feel like they are not getting the proper treatment where they are. Alabama fans want him to stay, but is his tweet stating that he is removing himself from the memory of fans? It could be.

We are in a time where players want instant success. They want action immediately. The Crimson Tide would like to see him remain and trust “The Process” of Nick Saban’s program, but Alabama is not for everybody. We will see what happens with Hall, but the tweet is interesting.
