How Alabama fans, players and staff respond to Crimson Crane social media craze

A new social media trend began on Tuesday in Alabama’s corner of the internet better known as “Gump Twitter.”

University of Alabama graduate Adam Weil and a proud member of the Crimson Tide fandom community started a new campaign that would help fans display their support for the football team ahead of its national championship game against Georgia next Monday.

Weil posted a tweet saying if you put the Gi emoji in your username on Twitter it will signify your support of Alabama.

The gi emoji is in reference to Crimson Tide wide receivers Jameson Williams and John Metchie’s touchdown celebration that pays homage to the crane kick from the movie “The Karate Kid.”

The trend immediately went viral with fans, players and even the administration taking part and a few of those can be seen below:
