Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley will be suspended for the 2022 NFL season over $1500. More specifically, Ridley gambled $1500 on NFL games during the 2021 season which has now cost him this upcoming year.
Ridley took a leave of absence from the Falcons after five games citing mental health concerns. He did not return to the team in 2021 and now certainly won’t for even longer.
Shortly after the news broke, the NFL world took to social media to share their reactions to Ridley’s suspension:
If Calvin Ridley wants to get his suspension reduced he should probably stop tweeting about it

Atleast Calvin Ridley bet on his own team to win! You know how courageous and bold you have to be to put your hard earned money on the Falcons

Calvin Ridley bet $1500 and lost $10 million, those are the worst odds in gambling history

NFL: Calvin Ridley has been suspended for at least a year.

So how did Calvin Ridley get busted? He was in Florida, and used the only gambling app legal in the state. The app notified a compliance company the NFL has hired called Genius for this kind of thing.
That he was out of state was a factor in Ridley's activity being flagged.

A source informed of the NFL's investigation into Calvin Ridley's gambling tells me the bets did involve the #Falcons.
The NFL's statement says the investigation "uncovered no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised in any way."

The #Falcons were approximately $7.1M over the cap entering today. With Calvin Ridley's suspension, his $11.1M salary comes off the books and tolls to 2023. Atlanta is now under the cap … so that's one way to free up room.
