5-Star DB Ellis Robinson feels it takes a ‘special player’ to join Alabama football’s ‘different culture’

Ellis Robinson made it back to Tuscaloosa to enjoy Alabama football’s cookout recruiting event over the weekend.

Robinson is set to play his junior season at IMG Academy, and he garners a five-star rating from multiple recruiting sites.

He made his first visit to Alabama since picking up an offer from the Tide in March, and he said it ‘felt like home’ when he was on campus. The rising junior’s latest visit to UA was a ‘great one,’ and it allowed him to catch up with Alabama’s coaching staff.

“I pretty much saw everything last time I was there,” Robinson told Touchdown Alabama. “The barbecue was really nice. We played games, ate and I got to talk football with coach T-Rob (Travaris Robinson). The conversation with coach Saban was different this time around. We talked more about me and how I fit into what they do. He told me there will be an opportunity to play as a freshman.”

Alabama’s staff has been working hard to build a relationship with the 2024 recruit. Travaris Robinson, Alabama’s cornerbacks coach, has developed a solid relationship with  Ellis, which dates back to his time at Miami.

“T-rob has been as solid with me and my family as it gets,” said Robinson. “He has been recruiting me hard since Miami. I have been building relationships with Sam Petitto and Coach Gillespie as this process goes on. But most importantly, I am starting to understand coach Saban is very unique in his coaching style and his approach to winning. I look forward to developing a better relationship with him as this process goes forward.”

Last weekend’s visit also gave Robinson an opportunity to catch up with some Alabama commits.

“I had a chance to talk with Caleb Downs and Jaylen Mbakwe,” Robinson said. “They just wanted me to know why Alabama is the place to be. I also got to spend time with my boy, Tyler Booker. I am learning it takes a special player to go to Bama. It’s a culture there that’s different than any other school I’ve been to.”

As a sophomore, Robinson showed he was indeed an all-around defensive back. He excelled in press coverage and pulled in several 50/50 balls for interceptions with his impressive ball skills. The five-star recruit also showed he was capable of coming downhill to help in run support.
