Freddie Roach getting defensive line ready for Alabama versus Tennessee

It was a collective effort by Alabama football’s coaches to sign the nation’s No. 1 2023 recruiting class.

Here is a look at how each Alabama position coach fared as recruiters during the cycle:

Alabama’s defensive line coach Freddie Roach was among the best recruiters in the nation, helping the Crimson Tide sign multiple five-star recruits. He was involved in the Tide landing James Smith, Kadyn Proctor, Jahlil Hurley, Tony Mitchell, Malik Benson, Yhonzae Pierre, Jordan Renaud, Hunter Osborne, Miles McVay and Edric Hill.

Charles Kelly, Alabama’s former safeties coach, was also very productive as a recruiter for the Tide during his last cycle in Tuscaloosa. He played a role in Alabama landing Caleb Downs, Qua Russaw, James Smith, Yhonzae Pierre, Dylan Lonergan and Brayson Hubbard.

Pete Golding continued to roll as a recruiter during his last stint in Tuscaloosa, pulling in Eli Holstein, Justin Jefferson and Brayson Hubbard.

Alabama’s offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien was heavily involved in Alabama’s pursuit of both of its quarterback signees.

Holmon Wiggins was big in Texas, helping Alabama lock up four-star wide receiver, Jalen Hale, and four-star defensive lineman, Jordan Renaud. Malik Benson, Cole Adams and Jaren Hamilton also are Alabama signees as a result of Wiggins’ efforts.

Eric Wolford helped Alabama secure a prized offensive line class. He was huge in Alabama signing all five of its 2023 offensive lineman signees, including five-star offensive lineman, Kadyn Proctor.

The Tide’s running back coach Robert Gillespie had some big moments in the 2023 recruiting cycle, recruiting Keon Keeley, Justice Haynes, Richard Young and Desmond Ricks. All four prospects garner a five-star ratings.

Joe Cox was vital in Alabama landing four-star recruits, Jaren Hamilton and Ty Lockwood, as a first-year tight end coach.

Coleman Hutzler, Alabama’s outside linebacker coach, is credited with helping Alabama sign Keon Keeley.
