Alabama’s most winningest quarterback in football showed he could lead a comeback.
AJ McCarron, a former three-time national champion for the Crimson Tide, tossed a pair of touchdowns for the St. Louis Battlehawks Sunday in his debut for the XFL. St. Louis struggled for much of the game until the fourth quarter.

McCarron led the Battlehawks on two touchdown drives, including one with 16 seconds left. St. Louis earned an 18-15 victory, and McCarron had an emotional moment with his sons. He was taken in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. McCarron was on five NFL teams from 2014 to 2021 before landing an opportunity in the XFL. As a native of Mobile, Ala., McCarron arrived in the Crimson Tide’s 2009 recruiting class as a four-star from St. Paul’s Episcopal High School.

He guided Alabama to two BCS National Championships as a starting quarterback.
McCarron finished his career at 36-4 as a starter.
