One of Alabama’s new defensive hires was only able to sip a few cups of coffee in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
ESPN’s Chris Low reported late Tuesday night that Austin Armstrong has been targeted as a top candidate for the defensive coordinator vacancy at the University of Florida. If he takes the job, Armstrong would be reunited with Billy Napier.
A couple of outlets are citing sources that expect Armstrong to take the Florida job. He was hired as the Tide’s inside linebackers coach, but now Armstrong may be on the move.
Patrick Toney, @GatorsFB‘s co-DC and play-caller last season, is in negotiations to join the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals as a defensive assistant, sources tell ESPN, and Florida’s Billy Napier is targeting newly hired @AlabamaFTBL assistant Austin Armstrong as Toney’s replacement.

He came to the Tide after serving as a defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Southern Mississippi.
Alabama made the hiring of Armstrong official eight days ago on Feb. 13.
