Alabama adds former Houston staffer to its player personnel staff

Alabama head coach Nick Saban continues to stack chess pieces for his coaching staff.

A new name has been added to the Crimson Tide’s football staff directory. Harding Harper served as assistant director of player personnel for the University of Houston. He specialized on defense, helping the Cougars to 94 tackles for loss in 2022.

Houston finished tied for ninth in the nation.

Harper, a native of Birmingham, Ala., played football at Carver High School (Montgomery, Ala.) and spent his college career as a linebacker for Vanderbilt University. He helped the Commodores to two straight 9-4 seasons in 2012 and 2013 under James Franklin. Harper started his coaching career at Centennial High School in Atlanta, Ga., where he served as a linebacker coach, assistant defensive coordinator, and recruiting coordinator in 2018 and 2019. He was a graduate assistant in 2019 and 2020 at the University of Missouri while being a linebackers coach for Lycoming College in 2020. Before going to Houston, Harper got hired in 2021 to be a football recruiting assistant for Colorado. He will serve as an assistant director of player personnel for the Crimson Tide.
